Presenting
Cinematic Pause: Out of the Mist 2
12:30 PM - 1:30 PMAbstract
How do you explain what it is to be living with a mental health challenge? For most people it is an almost impossible task, endless words that never seem adequate to the challenge. And the problem sometimes emerges that even we don’t fully understand what it is that we are describing - that strange and morphing space that seemingly takes us to places that others can never visit.
Yet where words fail, the arts can often prevail.
Out From The Mist is an Australian based but international photography, short film and music competition about mental illness. These (very) short films, chosen from entries over the past six years, take you into the world of people whose mental health jars away from the commonplace.
Compelling, concise and insightful, each film tells the unique story of its maker, and yet they are stories that will resonate with many of us who have a mental illness. Enjoy and be moved by these films, and visit us at OutFromTheMist.com if you have a story to share in photographs, short film or music.
This screening features a rotating 20–30-minute loop of short films.
Designed as a quiet, reflective space, attendees are welcome to drop in at any time to view one or more films at their own pace.
Delegates can bring their lunch into the room, but are asked to take all rubbish and plates with them.
Please note: some content may be emotionally sensitive; viewer discretion is advised.
